The ‘Year of the Dragon’ Celebrated by Rolls-Royce Through Four Distinctive Commissions

Rolls-Royce Commemorates the ‘Year of the Dragon’ With Four Unique Assignments

To mark the onset of the auspicious ‘Year of the Dragon’ in 2024, four fortunate individuals have acquired exclusive, individually crafted Rolls-Royce vehicles. These special variants showcase detailed hand-painted and hand-embroidered depictions of dragons in varying shades of red, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune according to Chinese beliefs.

Made with meticulous care at the Rolls-Royce Headquarters in Goodwood, these limited-release Year of the Dragon interpretations consist of three Phantom Extended models and one Cullinan, elegantly embodying the profound essence of Chinese traditions through exceptional artistry. The dragon, revered for representing strength, accomplishment, and triumph, inspired the birth of these extraordinary automobiles in a novel and contemporary form previously unseen in Rolls-Royce’s history.

Every vehicle is embellished with elaborate detailing, featuring traditional dragon motifs subtly woven into the interior. The dragons, exquisitely embroidered in Phoenix Red on the headrests, provide a remarkable contrast against the Black or White leather seats. The crafting of each intricate dragon motif demanded over 5,000 stitches and more than 20 hours of meticulous craftsmanship.

Moreover, three of the vehicles showcase hand-painted dashboard panels that offer modern interpretations of the dragon theme, skillfully executed by Rolls-Royce’s master artisans. The standout highlight of these custom models is the exclusive Bespoke Starlight Headliner, showcasing an enchanting dragon design composed of over 600 individual fiber-optic “star” lights, all carefully placed by hand.

Every personalized Rolls-Royce features a Gallery artwork, luxurious lambswool carpets, and a distinctive color palette tailored to its specific model. The designers aimed to pay respect to Chinese customs while infusing a sophisticated and modern flair that resonates with luxury aficionados worldwide.

Jonathan Simms, the Head of Bespoke at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, expressed, “Rolls-Royce Motor Cars excels in creating products that pay homage to diverse cultures and traditions, by integrating designs, patterns, and materials that hold personal significance for our patrons. These Bespoke Year of the Dragon commissions reflect our commitment to Chinese heritage and our dedication to meeting the evolving tastes of luxury clientele across the globe.”
