Savor Delectable Brunch at Rec Pier Chop House in Baltimore

The introduction of the Sagamore Pendry Baltimore Hotel in 2017 was met with excitement among the local community and visitors alike. The formerly condemned Rec Pier underwent a striking transformation, evolving into a luxurious accommodation in the historic Fells Point district. Furthermore, the Rec Station Bistro commenced catering to guests throughout the day, enriching Baltimore’s diverse culinary landscape.

Over the years, this writer has enjoyed many meals at the Rec Pier Chop House, becoming my top choice for entertaining visitors with a memorable dining experience. Recently, the Rec Pier Chop House has enhanced its offerings by welcoming chef Madison Williams. The culinary expert and her team have introduced a popular Gospel Brunch, blending uplifting melodies with a Southern-influenced menu for Sunday guests.

During our visit to the Gospel Brunch with my partner, the choir’s melodious voices echoed from the lounge’s balcony, filling the room with their lively songs. The dining area was lively, exuding a sense of happiness induced by the lavish meal and soulful music. We were guided to our seats overlooking the bustling Fells Point dining scene through the expansive windows.

As we approached the buffet, we were greeted by an assortment of tempting dishes. Small bowls of arugula salad and deviled eggs served as enticing starters. Further down the line, my appetite was piqued by fluffy honey butter biscuits and cornbread with smooth chipotle butter. For those craving breakfast options, there were scrambled eggs, skillet-fried potatoes, eggs Benedict, and abundant applewood smoked bacon. The carving station featured juicy prime rib.

Opting for a midday meal, I loaded my plate with creamy mac and cheese, perfectly fried chicken, roasted Brussels sprouts, simmered collard greens, a biscuit, cornbread, and, as a breakfast nod, eggs Benedict. The biscuits, cornbread, and fried chicken rivaled the best I’ve tasted in Charleston, SC, where Southern cuisine reigns supreme, in my opinion.

My brunch selection was paired with a Sicilian white wine from the impressive by-the-glass menu, while my partner chose a mimosa. The dessert spread featured a variety of sweets and fresh fruits. I managed to finish my plate, including fresh fruit, a small muffin, lemon meringue tartlet, raspberry pastry, and apple treat, then reclined to enjoy the music. At times, diners rose to sway to the energetic gospel melodies.

David Lindberg, the saxophonist, moved among the guests as a female vocalist delivered a heartfelt performance in honor of Covid survivors. Although staying for more music would have been enjoyable, we graciously gave up our seats to those waiting. Concluding our delightful brunch, we strolled out onto Thames Street to explore the boutiques adorning this historic, cobblestone-lined avenue.

After the Mother’s Day Gospel Brunch, the summer Pool Bar & Grill opened on Memorial Day and will remain operational until Labor Day. This grill offers a variety of tacos, light dishes, salads, and a selection of summer beverages, including non-alcoholic options. The poolside bar and grill facilities are reserved exclusively for hotel guests.

Some guests who attended the brunch were staying at the hotel, and I couldn’t help but envy their convenience of not having to drive after their meal. With 128 tastefully decorated rooms and suites, the Sagamore Pendry Baltimore Hotel stands out as one of the city’s premier luxury accommodations. Many guest rooms provide waterfront views, and the grand suite offers an unobstructed vista of the Inner Harbor, with the iconic Domino’s Sugar refinery in the foreground.
