Prior to the annual Consumer Electronics Show, there were anticipations of a strong presence from car manufacturers to exhibit their latest and upcoming sustainability initiatives.
Before any major announcements, we want to present a design by Richard Huang – the Mercedes-Benz Vision iMobility. Let’s delve into the details of this compact urban commuter.
It’s common knowledge that the automotive industry is actively shifting production away from internal combustion engines. Reports indicate that fossil fuels continue to be a major source of carbon emissions.
Thankfully, companies like Mercedes-Benz and others are now offering mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric choices across their range.
The Vision iMobility is an intriguing proposal considering the German company’s previously mentioned advancements in various autonomous technologies. Consequently, the designer has heavily incorporated the concept of self-driving into the interior layout and presentation. Externally, it ticks the boxes for a typical city commuter.
With its purported level 5 autonomous capabilities, there is no manual steering mechanism. Instead, the owner can recline on a motorized chair and simply unwind while the EV steers itself to the destination.
The interior can be customized to support well-being and cater to personal preferences.
An almost oval-shaped body rides on four wheels with streamlined forms, decorative LED elements, rear-view side cameras, a spacious windshield, and ample windows.
Drivers access their Vision iMobility through a combination of a swing-out door and a front cover system. The rear opens in a slightly different way and provides generous cargo space.
“Vision iMobility is a fully self-sufficient micro car designed to address the challenges faced by individuals in East Asia, where demanding work environments and extended hours contribute to high levels of fatigue.
The goal is to transform the daily commute into a personalized and rejuvenating experience, offering a space for relaxation and well-being,” explained Huang.
