Residing in the Peak District, The Status Life crew holds a profound admiration for its extraordinary magnificence. Recently, we had the privilege of exploring the area and resided at the splendid Vernon House, which boasts an unmatched location for discovering the finest offerings of the Peaks. Nestled between two of the most popular towns in the region, Bakewell and Matlock, and just a stone’s throw away from the awe-inspiring Chatsworth House, Vernon House serves as the perfect hub for immersing oneself in the local attractions.
Constructed in 1809, Vernon House in Rowsley epitomizes the grace of Georgian architecture. Newly revamped in 2020, it has been converted into a lavish and picturesque retreat, ideal for a brief visit to the Peak District this summer. For those unacquainted with Rowsley, it is a delightful village that is home to the renowned hotel and eatery, The Peacock, situated right across from Vernon House. Moreover, the adjacent tavern, The Grouse & Claret, offers an excellent alternative for those who prefer staying close to home rather than venturing out to Bakewell or Matlock.
Vernon House boasts four commodious bedrooms, with our personal favorite occupying the top floor entirely and featuring an additional daybed and a dedicated games room. The house can comfortably lodge 8-10 individuals, making it a superb choice for group getaways with friends or extended family. The snug living area, adorned with an oak fireplace and British Made couches, can easily seat 8 guests. Furthermore, the distinguished library/games room presents another expansive sofa and armchairs, alongside a card table, books, games, and a record player.
The kitchen at Vernon House is fully equipped for those who relish indulging in homemade meals during their getaways. Visitors will discover a variety of stylish dinnerware and all the essential electrical appliances, including a range oven, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee maker, toaster, and kettle.
If you crave to relish the splendor of Georgian architecture in the core of the Peak District, surrounded by magnificent manors, awe-inspiring hikes, and exceptional pubs and eateries, reserving a short retreat at Vernon House is an absolute necessity. Our stay at Vernon House was immensely delightful, and we wholeheartedly endorse it to anyone in search of a peaceful escape amidst the marvels of the Peak District.
