Following the conclusion of its competition journey in late 1977, chassis R1-06 is believed to have spent some time being showcased in a BMW dealership window before changing ownership over several years. Eventually, the car resurfaced at an auction in Annemasse, France in 2002, in need of restoration after being disassembled. A meticulous restoration process, referred to by the seller as a “complete nut-and-bolt” endeavor, involved dismantling and sandblasting all the vehicle’s components.
The vehicle comes with a comprehensive history file comprising of 10 binders, containing circuit sheets, vintage photographs, and pertinent motorsport magazines. Included in the sale are a variety of spare parts, such as additional differentials and wheels.
