Rarely do you come across a vehicle carrying a price tag exceeding $3m, but that’s the situation we currently find ourselves in with this absolutely stunning 1988 Porsche 959SC Reimagined by Canepa up for auction at RM Sotheby’s Miami. With an estimated price range of $3-3.5M, you’ll need deep pockets if you aim to outbid others and get your hands on this remarkable and significantly upgraded version of the Porsche 959 supercar.
This 1988 Porsche 959SC Reimagined by Canepa at RM Sotheby’s marks the third custom creation by the renowned Porsche expert, Canepa Motorsports. This goes a long way in justifying the high asking price. It comes in a unique paint-to-sample Emerald Green color complemented by Dark Green leather interiors, and is powered by an enhanced 825-hp, 2.85-liter, twin-turbocharged flat six-cylinder engine.
Bruce Canepa is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious Porsche specialists globally. His company’s expertise with the 959 is unmatched in North America, and he was fortunate enough to experience a Porsche 959 firsthand in 1987. Hearing of his remarkable talents, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen acquired a 959 from Canepa in 1987. After experiencing Allen’s car, Bill Gates also bought one through Canepa.
Originally, this 1988 Porsche 959 began as one of the initial 207 “Komfort” models manufactured. It was initially completed in Silver Metallic with standard grey leather interiors and was first delivered in Monte Carlo. Subsequently, it was sold in Japan and showcased in a private museum in Tokyo before being brought to the United States in September 2016. Have $3m to spare? The choice is clear.
