The exclusive event of a 15-course dinner occurred during the holiday period, when Michael and Annette Dearth, the proprietors of ‘The Grove,’ kindly extended an invitation to a workmate and myself to partake of their upscale bistro in Auckland, situated on New Zealand’s North Island.
Hailing from Connecticut originally, Michael, of Italian-Irish descent and a father of two, relocated to New Zealand following his tenure in the hospitality sector, particularly in San Francisco. The eatery is recognized for its calm and nature-inspired atmosphere and boasts a varied and inviting multinational workforce.
Moreover, the elongated space at The Grove was visually spectacular, embellished with hanging ceiling lights, natural wooden slats, and abundant foliage. The dining experience commenced with distinct cocktails and showcased a variety of captivating dishes, such as smoked eel enveloped in white chocolate and salt and vinegar crisps paired with sweetbread mousse.
The menu encompassed a broad selection of options, including local specialties complemented by exotic herbs, before culminating in a delectable assortment of desserts. The experience at The Grove was unquestionably remarkable and indulgent.
